There are a number of funding streams available through Sport England for sports clubs to improve their facilities. For more details visit our funding page.

Asset transfer

Asset transfer involves the transfer of the ownership of land or buildings from government organisations such as local authorities to community groups such as local sports clubs and trusts, often at a discounted price provided there is a benefit to the local community.

This presents an opportunity for sports clubs and national governing bodies to take ownership of their own facilities.

Asset transfer is a complex area not without pitfalls. Sports clubs and NGBs should weigh up the pros and cons carefully before taking on a facility.

Sport England has created an interactive tool to provide a step by step guide to the process, accessible via its website.
