Bowls

bowlsThe BBC website is a really good source for all general bowls information on rules, scoring, tactics and national governing bodies that run the various types of bowls e.g. Indoor, outdoor, short mat, women’s and men’s. BOWLS IS THE SPORT FOR ALL - JUST TRY IT!

Bowls is not only a sport, you can also have a varied and active social life at your local club and it is the ideal way to get together with new people, socialise and meet new challenges head-on.

Bowls - Keeping you healthy

Bowls gives your muscles and joints good exercise and keeps the tendons and ligaments you use limber. Due to the extensive muscles you use during the approach, bowls is a good full-body motion and the social side boosts psychological and emotional health.

Bowls is primarily anaerobic because you aren’t giving your cardiovascular system a workout. Bowls stretches the muscles you use and conditions others.

Carpet Bowls

Carpet Bowls is fun to play and relatively inexpensive.  The concept is to bow to the ‘jack’ or target ball, but to achieve this player has to bowl around a centre disc or block to reach the jack.

It can be played in any indoor hall which can hold a bowling mat approximately 30ft long by 6ft wide.  The bowls are 3 ins in diameter and are provided - so expenses are minimal.

Carpet Bowls can be played by all age groups and abilities and is a great way to meet new friends.  The level of competition depends upon the individual, it can be played on a social basis at a local club or, for more competitive cowling, clubs can compete in the West Sussex League.
