Petanque

Petanque, or French Boules, is a low-cost leisure sport suitable for all ages and abilities. Usually played as a team game with 6 players, petanque is a fun and exciting battle of skill and tactics between the two teams of Pointers, players who place their boules close to the jack, and Shooters, players who hit the opponents’ boules out of the game.

Petanque can be enjoyed at any level from a fun, ’social’ game to a more serious competition level. Petanque is a recognised sport, governed by the English Petanque Association www.englishpetanque.org.uk who support club, regional, national and international competitions.

Petanque has been an Olympic demonstration sport and would probably have been included again, had Paris won the 2012 bid! The 2 day sessions in August offer a sound introduction to the basic techniques, team roles and tactics and advise about using the correct equipment. The local club is very keen to recruit more junior members and offer them coaching and encouragement to participate in the many competitions available locally and nationally.
