Active & Healthy Workplaces

Active and Healthy Workplace Logo

“A workplace environment that fosters physical activity and good health can contribute to the health and well-being of all employees and presents a positive image both to the outside world and to employees.”

There is now undeniable evidence of the strong links between health and work.  A person’s health affects their ability to do their job and do it well.

We understand that despite all the talk and hype recently about workplace health, the reality for businesses is there is mounting pressure to meet businesses objectives, demands and targets; what ever they may be. This being the case, it is essential that all staff in your organisation are in a position to attend work, deal with the demands and pressures placed on them, and produce effective results.

Ironically, as staff spend more time focusing on work and achieving results they spend less time thinking about their health, leaving themselves susceptible to health problems both physical and mental.

Ill-health costs the UK economy over £12.6 billion annually and in 2008/09 a total of 185 million working days were lost to sickness according to the CIPD’s most recent absence management survey. Evidence proves that there are multiple business benefits to be gained through focusing more attention on employee health and well-being, including improved productivity and employee morale and retention.

Physically active employees take 27% fewer days of sick leave, which can ultimately translate to huge savings. Introducing an Active & Healthy Workplace programme can drive down absenteeism and staff turnover, reducing costs of overtime, sick pay and temporary staff cover, as well as recruitment and re-training costs.
