Disability Sport
Active Sussex is committed to working towards increasing inclusion and developing sustainable and accessible sport and active recreation for disabled people in Sussex. Active Sussex’s aim is to coordinate the development of disability sport across the County, to achieve greater sporting equality by working with a range of partners including voluntary organisations, community groups, schools, local authorities and facility providers.
The Sussex Disability Sports Group plays an integral part in ensuring that disabled people are given the opportunity to participate in sport by removing barriers, widening opportunities and increasing choice. Developing an Inclusive Club
The English Federation of Disability Sport has developed an Inclusive Club Health Check which is essentially a check list to see how inclusive your club is! This can then be used as a plan of action to increase the membership of disabled people at that club. This document will give clubs the ideas, methods and resources to welcome and include disabled people. Click the link below to health check your club!

Sledge Hockey: The Ultimate Inclusive Team Sport
Inline Sledge Hockey Launch: 19th December 2009
In partnership with RGK, Hull Stingrays Elite League Ice Hockey team and the British Inline Puck Hockey Association, the British Sledge Hockey Association (BSHA) is proud to announce the world launch of Inline Sledge Hockey at Lord Roberts Centre, Bisley Camp, Woking, Surrey.
Sledge Hockey is a variant of ice hockey using sledges to allow participants to move about the rink at high speeds whilst controlling and hitting a puck. Players sit in adapted sledges, propelling themselves with sticks adapted to allow propulsion in a manner similar to skiing. As players are strapped to a sledge everybody has the same restrictions, regardless of whether or not the player has a disability.

Parasport is a website run by the British Paralympic Association (BPA) and funded/supported by Deloitte. It will help to inspire, inform, educate and signpost people with disabilities to quality sporting opportunities.
There is a self assessment wizard on the website which will help people to classify a disability, and then identify the sports that are suitable for them to participate in. You can watch videos of different sports, read about them and then contact the sports and relevant clubs directly.
