Nominations are assessed by a panel of judges. Each nomination is scored on the how closely the nominee's achievements over the past year meet or exceed the criteria for each award.

Nominations for the 2011 awards closed at noon on 10 October 2011. Nominees are assessed against agreed and documented criteria by a panel of judges.

Once nominated and shortlisted, the winner of Club of the Year is decided by public vote. All other winners are decided by the judges on a points system.

Nomination Guidelines

  1. Nominations will be judged by a panel of judges. Each nomination will be scored on the how closely the nominee's achievements over the past year meet or exceed the criteria for each award. It is therefore important that you provide as much detail in your nomination as possible.

  3. Entries received after 12pm (noon) on Tuesday 10 October 2011 will not be entered for judging, and it will not be possible to shortlist the nominee.  Entries should be made online but can be emailed or sent by post.  An acknowledgement of receipt will be sent by Active Sussex.
  4. Nominees must be resident or actively involved in sports/physical activity development within the boundaries of East or West Sussex County Councils or Brighton & Hove City Council.
  5. Nominees must be within the specified age ranges on the 25 November 2011 as stated in the criteria for each relevant category.
  6. With the exception of Active Sussex Professional of the Year, Lifetime Achievement Award and Active Workplace of the Year, nominees have to be from a sport or multiple sports recognised by Sport England or be involved in a sports project for a sport or multiple sports recognised by Sport England.
  7. With the exception of the Lifetime Achievement Award and the Unsung Hero Award, previous winners can be nominated but all nominees’ activities should relate to the past year (September 2010 – September 2011).
  8. Those making nominations must be 16 years or over on 10 October 2011.

  10. No joint nominations for individual categories will be accepted.
  11. There is no limit to the number of nominations from an individual, club or organisation and individuals can be nominated in more than one category (unless stated otherwise). However, where there are multiple nominations for the same individual, club or organisation, an average score will be allocated. Therefore, ensure all nominations are completed as fully as possible.
  12. Nominations are actively encouraged from the disability sports arena for all categories.
  13. The top three shortlisted nominees in each individual category will each receive a free ticket plus one ticket at 50% to the Awards evening.  Please make your nominee(s) aware of the event date in case they are shortlisted.
  14. The top three shortlisted nominees in the team, workplace or club categories will be allocated two free tickets for representatives plus, two tickets at 50%. Any additional tickets can be purchased at £40 per adult (18+) and £25 per junior.
  15. By attending the awards ceremony, shortlisted nominees are agreeing for their image to be used in press and publicity features.
  16. The judging panel will consist of high level sports representatives across a variety of sport settings who will use a scoring system to assess applications. The panel’s decision is final.
