Tuesday 20th September 2022, 10am-2pm (coffee and networking from 9:15am) at The American Express Community Stadium, Brighton.
The Active Sussex Conference returns this September and, for the first time since pre-pandemic, it's live! Key players from across the county will come together to learn, share and plan for a more physically active county.
Doors open from 9:15am for some informal networking over coffee, giving you an opportunity to finally catch up with colleagues, and meet new people, face-to-face.
Following a short welcome address at 10am, Active Humber CEO and Sport Environment and Climate Coalition board member, David Gent, will deliver a thought-provoking keynote and action session exploring how climate change and physically activity are directly interlinked; why those facing the greatest inequalities are disproportionately affected and what we, in Sussex, can do to tackle these global issues locally.
After a short break and the return of the ‘Partner Powerplay’ (your minute to introduce, update and share successes), facilitated discussions will take place, helping shape Active Sussex’s upcoming five-year strategy. Conversations will focus on how the future strategy can add value to the network as we collaboratively seek to transform lives and communities through physical activity.
The final session will draw on the lived experience of those on low incomes or living in areas of deprivation. Active Sussex will share learning from work undertaken over the last two years to tackle local inequalities as we hear the personal stories of participants, as well as those organisations who have taken action. Together we will unpick the barriers to gain a better understanding of how changing the offer and finding local champions has turned failure into success.
Full session outlines are available to read further down this page.
The day will conclude with a networking lunch until 2pm, allowing time to reflect on the morning, share thoughts and ideas with other delegates, and to connect with the Active Sussex team.
Places at the conference cost £20 plus VAT, and include refreshments and a networking lunch. Space is limited, so book early to secure your place.
Spaces were limited, and we are now fully booked. If you would like to be added to the waiting list please email Ed Bartram -

Increasing physical activity for people on low incomes
This session will focus on supporting people to increase their physical activity levels who are on low incomes or living in areas of deprivation. Active Sussex will share learning from work undertaken over the last two years to tackle local inequalities. We will hear the personal stories of participants to understand barriers and how these have been overcome. We’ll also speak to the people who have made this happen, to understand how changing their offer and finding local champions has turned failure into success.
