Good Data, Better Decisions – Turning Insight into Action

If you want a very simple guide to what our Insight Officer Mac thinks is a very solid approach "Turning into insight into action" you couldn't do much better than this one.

Best practice for Insight gathering

At this year’s Go! London Forum 2026 there was a session on just that. Collecting, and turning insight into action.
This was the central message delivered by Preeti Shetty (CEO, Upshot), who, in her workshop on data collection, highlighted the cycle of monitoring, evaluation and learning, and emphasised the seven principles of effective impact practice.

Not shying away from the fact that “failure” when done right, is simply an opportunity for learning. With principle 6 being “DON’T FEAR THE F-WORD”. Be as enthusiastic about being able to know about failure as about success – it’s all about learning.

Fail = First Attempt In Learning

This is something that Mac has championed for years. Having been a Champion on the AHRC-funded research project FailSpace, he understands the nuance of failure.  It explores how the cultural sector (and wider) can better recognise, acknowledge and learn from failure.

We think both are pretty guides and approaches; so simple and cuts right to the heart of what Mac tries to implement in all his work.
