This Girl Can launched Let's Get Out There to encourage women and girls to access outdoor spaces to get physically active. Women face greater barriers to accessing and enjoying outdoor spaces, and the aim of the campaign is for women to think of nature and outdoor spaces as places to enjoy and improve their physical health and overall wellbeing.
Here we share some of the great examples in Sussex of groups and organisations helping women and girls to overcome the barriers and get moving outside.
Southdowns Orienteers is the Orienteering club for Sussex. The club has a strong female membership across all ages up to 80. Women enjoy the sport, grow in confidence, meet like minded people and even win medals. See PDF below for more information.
GoodGym Brighton is made up of local residents who run, walk, or cycle to help out community projects and older people in Brighton & Hove. From hanging curtains for Mr H because he can't manage it on his own, to shovelling compost for the Food Growers Group - every GoodGym session is different.
Creating a sense of belonging for women and girls in mountain biking, sessions are free and at the weekend and designed for girls, non-binary and trans young people aged 12-17.
