Active Lives Small Area Estimates Tool: A new tool to understand physical activity levels in local areas

A new tool to understand physical activity levels in local areas

Sport England have released a new mapping tool showing activity levels at MSOA (on average has a population of around 9,000 people) and LSOA (on average has a population of around 1,700 people) throughout the country. If you are interested in looking closer at local communities this tool will be invaluable.

It looks at both the Active and Inactive communities. And will display sports participation data.

It includes separate data for Adults, and Children and Young People.
It also presents demographic information through the small areas tool, offering a more detailed insight into the estimated physical activity levels in our communities. This includes Age, Disability, Gender, Ethnicity, and Socio-economic factors.

You can access the interactive tool below.

You'll be able to:

Access the mapping tool to run your own queries, including overlaying some census data with physical activity data.

The raw data is available for those that want to play around and interrogate it, or add it to their own mapping software.

This is the first edition of physical activity estimates using a new methodology for small areas and work has already begun on the 2022/23 Active Lives datasets. The tool will be updated once this work has been completed.
