Information for Parents and Carers

As a parent or carer, it’s natural to want to make sure your child is safe, supported and having fun in sport and physical activity. Sometimes, it can be hard to know what questions to ask or what to look for when choosing a club. Below are some resources from the NSPCC, on what key questions to ask clubs. We have also created a downloadable poster to help you feel more confident to ask the right questions when choosing an club or activity group during the school holidays. Click the link below to see.

If you feel unsafe at your sports club or activity group

If something at your sports club makes you feel worried, scared or unsafe, here’s what you can do:

  • Talk to someone you trust at your club, like the welfare officer or a coach.
  • Talk to a parent, carer or another adult you trust, like a teacher or family member
  • If you don’t feel comfortable doing that, or it doesn’t help, you can:

Call the NSPCC on  0808 800 5000 Or email them at help@nspcc.org.uk

They’re friendly, they listen, and they’re there to help you.

If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 999 and ask for the police.

If you are an adult and you feel unsafe at your sports club, you should report your concerns to the appropriate authorities, such as the club’s welfare or safeguarding officer or the relevant sports governing body. You can also contact the Ann Craft Trust for advice and support.

You can also contact the Active Sussex Safeguarding Team directly through our reporting concerns page.
