International Women’s Day activities around Sussex

International Women’s Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.

This year the theme is #EmbraceEquity which looks at recognising that every person has different circumstances and allocating exact resources and opportunities needed to reach an equal outcome.

We asked some of our This Girl Can supporters what they were doing to mark International Women’s Day.

Here are a few of the events taking place in Sussex.

On Wednesday (March 8) Sussex County Cricket Club is holding an International Women’s Day evening event to mark the day as well as celebrate 20 years since the Sussex Women first won the County Championship.

Also on Wednesday, the #LetGirlsPlay biggest ever football session is taking place across schools in Sussex.

The aim of this initiative is to get as many girls to play football all on one day as possible. There is still time to register your school by clicking here.

Another event on Wednesday, this time at 5pm, is the free Community 5KM beach run at Rockwater, Hove.

The event is led by Threshold Trails, and in partnership with Skülptur, lululemon, and Rockwater.

There is also the option to do the run followed by a 40 minute fitness session with the Skülptur Coaching Team and then a 40 minute yoga flow session.

On Saturday, March 11, join 500 mermaids at Brighton seafront for a swim/dip in the sea. Swimmers are asked to meet at 8.45am ahead of a group photo at 9am at Beach Box Brighton, Banjo Groyne, Madeira Drive.

The event is open to anyone who would like to take part. More information can be found here.

At the Shoreham Centre in Pond Road, Shoreham, there will be a flowing yoga session with Love The Journey Yoga between 1.30pm and 2.30pm. Pay what you can on the day and bring a mat. To book, call 01273 454686.

On Saturday, Platf9rm in Church Road, Hove, is holding a Kickass Women event. The line-up of eight speakers includes sports writer Nicky Bandini. To book your ticket, click here.
