Meet Active Sussex’s finance officer

As part of our on-going series to introduce our staff and trustees, we catch up with our new finance officer Vanessa Mayor.

Here we find out how she has found the first couple of months of working with Active Sussex, what she enjoys doing in her spare time and where she would like to travel.

Why do you enjoy working for Active Sussex?

The strategy and the people that deliver it are exceptionally inspiring.

The team is so selfless and energetic, working towards and delivering something so vital to our communities. I feel incredibly motivated to offer my support.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I run twice a week. I feel empowered when I run and do a lot of good thinking too, including planning my writing.

I write screen plays and TV dramas. Writing makes me very happy. It allows me to explore the multiverse. I do submit my output, but have so far yet to have my enthusiasm reflected back at me.

I also work a couple of allotments with my husband, growing food and reconnecting with nature. All these things keep me pretty busy.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?

I aim to get to know as much of the UK as I can. The UK is unbelievably beautiful and full of incredible things. This is what I want to engage with, and understand my national as a whole rather than just the little bits I’ve grown up with and live with now.
