Meet another of Active Sussex's new Sport Welfare Officers

As part of our ongoing series to introduce our staff and trustees, we catch up with one of our two new Sport Welfare Officers, Lauren Rickson.

Here we find out why Lauren wanted to work for Active Sussex, what she gets up to in her spare time, and the skills she has brought to the team.

Why do you enjoy working for Active Sussex?

Although I’m new to the team, Active Sussex has always been an organisation I’ve been keen to work for. They are such a dynamic and innovative team so I’m excited to now be part of that.

I’m passionate about the benefits people can get from moving more and being physically active – whether that be through playing sports at a local club or doing some gardening at home.

I believe all opportunities should be equal for everyone and feel my values align with what Active Sussex are aiming to achieve, which makes working here just great.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I love to be out in nature, so when I’m not taking my children to one of their many activities, I’m usually found sea swimming, horse riding or walking my dog on the South Downs.

The kids have also recently discovered a love of board games, so Saturday evenings have become very competitive in our house playing Monopoly or Cluedo.

Other than that, catching up with friends and family is important to me and I enjoy listening to music and going on holidays.

What skills and knowledge do you have to help make a difference at Active Sussex?

Before working for Active Sussex my background has been working within the education sector with a focus on inclusion and safeguarding and more recently working within Public Health supporting people to move more and tackle inequality.

These roles bring my knowledge and experience together to form a strong foundation to carry out my role as Sport Welfare Officer.
