Meet the Strategic Relationship Manager for children and young people

In a weekly series, Active Sussex introduces its staff and trustees.

Andy Wright is the Strategic Relationship Manager for Children and Young People, joining Active Sussex in November 2019.

Here we find out how working for Active Sussex is a ‘dream come true’ for the father-of-two and what Andy does in his spare time.

Why do you enjoy working for Active Sussex?

“Very simply, I want to make a difference. My passion is sport and I want to give every child the opportunity to love being active because I know how powerful it can be emotionally as well as physically.

“I wanted to work for Active Sussex since I was about 16, so it’s kind of a dream come true.

“I became interested in Sport Development because of a teacher that understood me and gave me the opportunities I craved. From there I didn’t look back, from a CSLA qualification at school, to coaching courses led by Active Sussex whilst back in the holidays from my university degree in Sport Science.

“I worked alongside Active Sussex as a Competition Manager and Regional Development Officer, and eventually the right role came up for me at the right time.”

What do you like to do in your spare time?

“Most, if not all, of my spare time is dedicated to my family, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

“I now coach cricket thanks to their enthusiasm for the sport, and even get to play alongside them from time-to-time when I’m not coaching or managing their teams.

“I also enjoy long walks, gardening and holidays.”
