Meet the vice chair of trustees
In a weekly series, Active Sussex introduces its staff and trustees.
Diana Whitney hs been a trustee since July 2021, is the vice chair of the trustees and chairs the Governance and Audit Committee.
Here we learn a bit more about why she became involved with Active Sussex, her love of the French Alps and what she likes to do in her spare time.
Why did you want to become involved with Active Sussex?
I wanted to give some of my time and skills back to a worthwhile cause and I am passionate about sport and physical activity – hence this was the ideal opportunity.
I want to break down the barriers to participation in sport and open up opportunities for all to get involved and get moving.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I am a keen ultra runner and so run silly distances. This involves training before work at the crack of dawn on the South Downs – nothing could be better.
Otherwise I love going on long walks with my family, it is the ideal opportunity to get out in the open and catch up on life.
If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?
The French Alps with my family. My favourite holidays are long walks, cycle rides and cooling off in the lakes (in the summer) and ski touring (in the winter), all with tartiflette for dinner.
What skills and knowledge do you have to help make a difference at Active Sussex?
My background is in law and so I have a lot of experience in compliance and governance and these skills lend themselves well to working with a charity and in particular chairing the Governance and Audit Committee.
Would you be interested in becoming an Active Sussex trustee? We recruit periodically and are always on the lookout for a diverse range of people who have the skills and expertise to govern Active Sussex, and through our work help us to reduce inequalities in accessing physical activity in Sussex
