Active Sussex welcomes new chair of trustees

The Board of Trustees has appointed Christine Gibbons to replace the outgoing chair, Brian Clark, who stepped down earlier this year due to ill health. 

Christine, who joined the Board of Trustees in September 2022, is a retired pharmacist and NHS executive who completed a Masters in Global Public Health during the pandemic. 

She brings a wealth of charitable board experience having held Chair and trustee positions in several health and sports charities. 

She is a keen parkrunner, loves cold water swimming, and enjoys trying new activities. Her latest attempt is bouldering. 

Christine said of her appointment: “I am delighted and privileged to be the next chair of Active Sussex.

“We all know that being active is vital for both physical and mental health, and I want to enable everyone to have access to any activities/sports they want to try.

“I am passionate that everyone in Sussex should have equal access to sport and physical activity. Active Sussex is working with partners across the counties to help break down barriers and make this a reality.”

“The wealth of experience and enthusiasm Christine brings to the role of chair will be invaluable to achieve the ambitions of the Getting Sussex Moving strategy.”

The Active Sussex Board of Trustees comprises 12 trustees plus one ex-officio co-opted board member. 

Three trustees, Bev Banton, John Graddon, and Sarah Curgenven, joined the board in September.
