Equal Sport Hub Launches Disability Sport Coaching Apprenticeship in Sussex

A unique new opportunity is opening up for adults with a learning disability in Sussex who want to take their first steps into coaching.

The Equal Sport Hub Disability Sport Coaching Apprenticeship offers a supported, inclusive pathway into paid employment, recognised qualifications and hands‑on coaching experience, all of which is designed to help participants grow in confidence and thrive in community sport.

The programme offers a three‑year Community Activator Coach Level 2 Apprenticeship, ideal for anyone who wants to plan, lead and deliver physical activity sessions for people of all ages.

Apprentices will take part in weekly multi‑sports sessions, providing opportunities to coach and be coached, and to engage in practical learning with high‑quality coaches.

It comprises a structured programme of 21 modules delivered through self‑study, group teaching and one‑to‑one tutorials, with guest speaker sessions from practising professionals across the sector.

The apprenticeship can also be completed alongside other employment, offering flexibility for individuals and families.

This opportunity is open to adults who:

  • Are 18 or over (from January 1, 2026)
  • Have a learning or physical disability
  • Are not currently in education

  • Weekly mentoring from experienced mentors
  • Free access to a weekly coaching session
