Meet Active Sussex’s new Finance Officer
As part of our ongoing series to introduce our staff and trustees, we catch up with Active Sussex’s new Finance Officer, Jo Scutt, who joined the team in March 2026.
Here we learn about her passion for the great outdoors and the benefits she gains from being active.
Why did you want to work for Active Sussex?
I love keeping fit and active, and cannot emphasise enough the wellbeing benefits this provides, so being able to combine this enthusiasm for exercise and wellbeing with my accounting experience was a key factor in my decision to apply for the Finance Officer role.
I’m also a trustee at Arundel Lido, which adds perspective from a local sport and community-based organisation.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
Wherever possible, I try to be outside. Every day starts with some exercise, typically a swim or a run. We have a large garden, so that keeps me busy, and we try to walk up on the beautiful Sussex Downs whenever we can.
I have to say my PE teacher would be amazed to see me now, as I really struggled with school PE and games.
If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?
For me personally, I don’t think you can beat the Cornish coastline for walking. If the weather is good, even better.
What skills and knowledge do you have to help make a difference at Active Sussex?
I have worked in charity finance in some capacity for most of my career, so I hope to bring that experience to Active Sussex and contribute to the ongoing development of the charity and its activities.
