New carbon calculator and sustainability resource hub launched to support sector action on the environment
A free-to-use carbon calculator for sport and a sustainability resource hub have been created to help organisations turn ambition into measurable action.
Developed and published by BASIS, these tools mark an important step in making environmental sustainability more accessible, achievable, and embedded across the sport and physical activity sector.
A Carbon Calculator Designed for Sport
Over recent months, carbon calculation has been one of the most common challenges raised. Many organisations want to take action but aren’t sure where to start or feel overwhelmed by the complexity of emissions reporting.
The new BASIS Carbon Calculator has been created specifically to address this. It is:
- Free to use for all Sport England system partners and their networks
- Aligned with Sport England’s Sustainability Maturity Tool
- Built around the most relevant elements of Scopes 1, 2 and 3 emissions for sport
- Equipped with built‑in conversion factors, so calculations happen automatically
- Designed for simplicity, allowing users to focus on selecting what to include, gathering data, and inputting it into the tool
- Able to generate a clear, trackable emissions baseline year‑on‑year
Using a consistent tool across the sector will help organisations build reliable, comparable data, making it easier to track progress, demonstrate impact, and plan next steps.

Introducing the Sustainability Resource Hub
The Carbon Calculator is the first component of the new BASIS Sustainability Resource Hub, created to support organisations as they work through the Sport England Sustainability Maturity Tool.
