More than 60 people came together to connect and collaborate at the Active Sussex Networking Coffee Morning today (Tuesday, March 24).

The informal two-hour event was held at the Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts at the University of Sussex and was a brilliant opportunity to get together and share ideas.

Attendees came from across Sussex and from all backgrounds, including sports clubs and activity providers, the NHS, education and local government.

Active Sussex Strategic Relationship Manager Ross Joannides said: “The event created a welcoming space where people were able to connect, share ideas, and build meaningful relationships.

“The partners involved brought a fantastic energy, passion, and a genuine desire to collaborate, helping to spark creativity and fresh thinking around movement, physical activity and sport.

“I’m excited to see where the conversations go and new opportunities that emerge from the discussions with everyone feeling more encouraged to contribute and unite as a workforce looking to support those most in need of support.”

Ed Bartram, event officer, added: “It was great to get so many people together this morning, and to just press pause on the hectic schedules for a couple of hours to catch up and connect.

“We always say it, but when you bring people together who are so passionate about a common goal, you can’t help but leave feeling inspired and energised. I hope that those who joined us had as enjoyable a morning as the team here did.”

At the event, there were information boards about projects that have recently taken place across Sussex, including the Coach Core apprenticeship scheme, the CYP Coordinator programme, work with East Sussex County Council’s Adult Health and Social Care, and an award-winning project with the NHS.

The Active Sussex Sport Welfare Officers also had a stand with information and leaflets about safeguarding and welfare for sports clubs and organisations.

During the morning, Active Sussex CEO Anthony Statham announced that the organisation had received further funding from Sport England to expand place-based work across Sussex. You can read more about that announcement here.

Active Sussex runs events and networks throughout the year as part of its Community of Learning offer. You can keep up-to-date with which events are taking place by visiting the events calendar on the Active Sussex website.

The next annual Active Sussex Conference will take place on September 29. More details will be shared shortly.
