This Girl Can Webinar Unveils 2026 Plans, New Resources and Place‑Based Pilots to Support Women Getting Active
The This Girl Can movement set out its bold ambitions to help more women overcome barriers to physical activity for the year ahead during a recent webinar.
Held on Wednesday, January 21, the campaign run by Sport England, reaffirmed the campaign’s four central objectives for 2024–2028: reducing inactivity levels, increasing activity levels, shifting attitudes, and building a collaborative, nationwide movement.
Speakers emphasised the importance of focusing on “Our Women” – groups who face the greatest barriers to getting active, including women on lower incomes, South Asian and Black women, women over 55, pregnant women and new mums.
The campaign also highlighted the need to better support women with disabilities and long‑term health conditions.
Reflecting on a Landmark 2025
The webinar celebrated a milestone year for This Girl Can, marking the campaign’s 10th anniversary.
Highlights included the Raise It and Shape It initiatives, the Studio You x Nike collaboration, and the second year of the Let’s Get Out There campaign.
Attendees also heard about the launch of the new Safer Spaces to Move guidance, the introduction of We Like the Way You Move, and the third year of Let’s Lift the Curfew.
Looking Ahead: A Major Push for 2026
This year will see the campaign return to TV, social media and out‑of‑home advertising, with a strong focus on the message that “Just 10 minutes can have big benefits.”
New media partnerships with 4Studio, Amaliah and Black Ballad will help extend the campaign’s reach into communities where women face the greatest barriers to activity.
A major announcement was the launch of a refreshed communications toolkit on the This Girl Can Hub.
The toolkit includes key messaging, long and short copy, editable social media assets, posters, social media guidance, a TGC content library and a suite of additional resources.
These resources are designed to help organisations engage women more effectively, supported by insight reports such as Belonging Starts with Inclusion and practical guidance on cultural considerations, community engagement and working with group exercise professionals.
Case Studies and Social Media: Amplifying the Movement
The webinar showcased examples of how organisations are already using campaign assets to inspire women locally.
Attendees were encouraged to use the editable assets to promote their own sessions, inspire confidence and help women take their first steps into activity.
Delivery organisations were urged to promote their classes and opportunities to women in their communities, while national partners were encouraged to share the toolkit widely, amplify the campaign on their own channels, and engage with This Girl Can content online.
Everyone was reminded to tag @thisgirlcanuk and use #ThisGirlCan, particularly around International Women’s Day.
The assets can be adapted easily using Canva or PowerPoint, with step‑by‑step instructions provided.
Introducing the New TGC Place Pilots
A major development for 2026 is the introduction of four new This Girl Can Place pilots in Havant, South Tyneside, Hull, and Blackburn with Darwen.
These pilots aim to better align what inspires women with the local opportunities available to them.
Rooted in user‑centred design, the pilots will be shaped collaboratively with women and local partners.
Early insight gathering and co‑design work are already underway, although formal funding approvals are still in progress.
The pilots will test how local insight can shape activity offers, how campaign‑driven demand connects with accessible local provision, and what conditions truly matter for women to create lasting change.
What Organisations Can Do Now
Attendees were encouraged to take immediate steps to support the movement by downloading the toolkit and editable assets from the campaign hub, reading the latest insight report, sharing the campaign across their networks, and subscribing to the newsletter for updates.
The message was clear: by working together, partners across the country can help ensure that every woman feels able, welcome and motivated to get active in a way that works for her.
