Session 1: Pre-Conference Networking (9am-9.45am)
An important part of any conference. Grab a coffee, and meet colleagues from across the county at this virtual networking session. Whether you’re making new connections, or catching up with old friends, it’s the perfect way to start the day
Session 2: ‘Live Longer Better’: A new culture: from “care” to “enablement”, using physical activity as the driver to increase healthspan for older adults’ (10am-11.15am)
Keynote Speaker: Sir Muir Gray
In a career spanning 50 years Sir Muir Gray has worked with both NHS England and Public Health England to bring about a transformation of care.
Throughout this time Sir Muir has maintained a focus on population ageing and developed a new paradigm to help people live longer better. This aims to compress morbidity at the end of life and to reduce the incidence of dementia and frailty and therefore reduce the need for social care.
Sir Muir has also operated as the Chief Knowledge Officer of the NHS and was awarded both a CBE and later a Knighthood for services for the NHS.
This session will focus on the ageing process and there is a ‘revolution’ to enable older people to live longer better. Sir Muir Gray will bring this to life as he talks about the ageing process and how physical activity can significantly reduce problems in later life.
Delegates will have a far greater knowledge about the current issues that affect how we live and care for people in later life which will allow them to engage in discussions on how we can do more to support this through physical activity at a local level.
Session 3: Uniting the Network – Progressing the Big Issues (11.30am-1pm)
Facilitator: Ed Sandham, Strategic Lead – Active Partnerships, Sport England
Uniting the Movement, which Sport England published in January 2021, is their 10-year strategy to transform lives and communities through sport and physical activity.
This Sport England One Year Implementation Plan outlines a set of goals to deliver Uniting the Movement. They balance the continuing need to be responsive to short-term challenges, whilst identifying the longer term ambitions set out within the strategy.
This facilitated session will identify where we will focus collaboratively as a network over the next year and beyond.
Come and join the discussion, connect with partners and help to set the foundations in making a difference to people’s lives in Sussex through physical activity.
Session 4: Let’s Talk Equality and Take Action! (1.30pm-3pm)
Facilitator: Alex White, Trustee, Active Sussex
The session is a call to action for delegates to implement equality, diversity and inclusion best practice within the sport and physical activity landscape in Sussex.
Active Sussex is committed to proactively tackling inequalities that prevent or discourage people from leading active lives and enjoying the benefits of sport and physical activity, whether that be as participants, volunteers or by working in the sector.
This session provides an opportunity to explore a collective commitment to work together as a network to tackle inequalities and take action to ensure we are truly inclusive focused.

Session 5: ‘CIMSPA, the Sector and Workforce Support’ (3.15pm-4.30pm)
Facilitator: Danny Ross, CIMSPA
The sport and physical activity sector, the respective workforce and the way physical activity is managed has endured some hugely drastic changes over the last 12-months. The workforce has faced enormous challenges throughout the pandemic and as normality returns it is crucial you are heard, listened to and supported.
At CIMSPA, their goal is to shape a recognised and respected sector that everyone wants to be a part of. They support the sector through a leading by listening approach. This session is an excellent opportunity for delegates to gain valuable insight into the state of the present workforce, be heard about what support delegates need and understand what excellent opportunities are available by CIMSPA to support delegates workforce journey as the network emerges from the pandemic.
