Primary PE and Sport Premium confirmed for 2019/20
Active Sussex welcomes the confirmation that the Department for Education will fund the Primary PE and Sport Premium for the 2019/20 academic year.
A total of £320 million will again be made available to primary schools in England to improve the quality of PE and sport.
Schools must use the investment to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of physical education, physical activity and sport aligned to five indicators:
- The engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity
- The profile of PE and sport is raised across the school as a tool for whole-school improvement
- Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport
- Broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils
- Increased participation in competitive sport
It is expected that further details will be published by the department soon.
How can we help?
Active Sussex is one of the 43 Active Partnerships across England - the only organisations that are funded by Sport England to offer primary schools free, objective advice and support that helps them spend the Primary PE and Sport Premium effectively.
Nick Chellel, Active Sussex's School & Community Sports Officer said: "We have a key role to play and can provide help by maximising the Primary PE and Sport Premium funding to lead to self-sustaining improvement with the overall goal of building a lasting legacy.
"Also using our insight, including results from the Active Lives Children and Young People Survey, and resources, we will ensure that future sport and physical activity focuses on the children and places most in need of the support we can offer.
