Sport England announces new fund to help raise physical activity levels in local communities

The Movement Fund was recently announced by Sport England and aims to revolutionise funding applications to help ensure everyone has the opportunity to take part in physical activity.

Sport England launched the fund to make applications easier for sports clubs and will target the areas that need it the most. It totals £160 million across crowdfunding pledges, grants and resources, and launched alongside the Movement Hub pilot.

The latest Active Lives survey shows that significant gaps, regarding physical activity levels, remain between people based on factors such as location, affluence, sex and ethnic background. This fund makes investments of between £300 and £15,000 available to eligible projects that align with the requirements.

Tim Hollingsworth, Chief Executive at Sport England, said: “In our implementation plan we committed to simplifying access to our open funding, with a single point of entry for anyone wanting to be a part of the movement, today we make good on that commitment.

“We know that choosing the best fund to apply for can be confusing, which is why we’ve worked hard to create a single application form that allows us to do the hard work and best assess your suitability.

“Whether it’s a crowdfunding pledge or a grant, the Movement Fund is here to help our mission to tackle deep-rooted inequalities and unlock the advantages of sport and physical activity for everyone, to become a reality.”

This comes off the back of Sport England’s 2022-25 implementation plan of Uniting the Movement strategy. Along with the Movement Fund, the Movement Hub has been launched which is a tool to make it easier for organizations to access support and resources.
