Sussex Disability Sports Network Conference 2024 – Waiting list sign up

Tuesday, July 9

Following a successful conference in 2022, the Sussex Disability Sports Network is delighted to host another face-to-face event at the University of Sussex.

Supported by Active Sussex the event will provide an open learning environment through interactive workshops including insight from disabled people, lots of opportunity to network with other partners and to access advice and support from some key network members.

Bookings will close on Tuesday, June 25.

What's On

The aim of the day is to provide a safe space to explore and engage in conversations, ask questions and think about what actions can be taken back into your own roles and organisations.

Workshop themes have been identified and designed based on network member input and so across the day we will explore breaking down barriers for people with a visual or hearing impairment, and consider the priorities and pathways to provision for disabled adults accessing social care services.

We are delighted to announce that Danielle Evans will help to kick off the conference, talking about her own journey having been born at 26 weeks with cognitive brain development issues and chronic lung disease, experiences working in both the sector in marketing and as a Support Worker caring for young people with complex disabilities, and how she hopes to use her profile as Miss Hastings and #TryMe campaign to challenge stereotypes.

We also have members of the Sussex VI Sharks squad who will not only bring their experiences of participating in cricket, but their knowledge of working and leading in the sector. We also have representation from UK Deaf Sport, Mencap, Activity Alliance, Grace Eyre who will be sharing and speaking throughout the day.

Lunch is included, along with refreshments throughout the day.

The venue has wheelchair access and BSL interpreters will be available, however we want to ensure the event is accessible for all, so please let us know of any specific access and communication needs when you book.
