Try Tag Rugby launches in Brighton & Hove
A fun and exciting minimal contact sport is launching in Brighton & Hove.
Try Tag Rugby is starting its first eight-week, weekly league on Wednesday, April 26 at Hove Green, adjacent to BHASVIC College.
The mixed adult league is for people of all genders and is open for registration to teams as well as individuals who will be placed on a team. No previous rugby experience is necessary.
A series of free taster sessions will be taking place in the run up to the league on April 5, 12, and 15 for people to give the sport a try.
The Brighton & Hove licence will be run by Steph McCabe, who has experience as both a player and a referee.
Steph said: “I’m so excited to launch Try Tag Rugby in Brighton & Hove. Try Tag Rugby is such an inclusive sport, regardless of ability or past experience, there is a place for anyone who wants to play.
“When I turned up to my first Tag Rugby taster session back in 2014 in London, I was 30 years of age and had never even touched a rugby ball before.
“Within two years, I was nominated the most improved female player at the annual awards in London and started refereeing at weekly leagues.
“Tag Rugby really is a sport for everyone, regardless of previous experience and is incredibly inclusive, which is why I love it so much.”
She added: “The benefits to joining a Tag Rugby team are endless.
“You instantly become part of a community, there are weekly after-match socials, you join a team and work on improving together each week, you get fitter without realising it because you’re too busy having fun.
“Whether you’re a social player or want to take it more seriously, there are opportunities for everyone to go at their own pace!
“Having been involved as a player, referee and league organiser previously with Try Tag Rugby, I’m really excited to be bringing the sport to Brighton and Hove for the first time!
“The best thing to do is come down to a free taster session and give it a try for yourself. There are friendly coaches on hand to help you learn the rules and it’s a really easy sport to pick up.”
Try Tag Rugby Co-founder and Joint Managing Director, Alistair Davis said: “It’s fantastic to see Brighton & Hove as the latest place to be added to the Try Tag Rugby map.
“With Brighton’s reputation for being a fun and friendly place to live and the people there having a love for activities outdoors we think Try Tag Rugby is a great fit.
“We are also delighted to welcome Steph back to Try Tag Rugby. She did a great job when working for us in London, with the leagues she used to run having a reputation of being very well managed, fun and super social.
“We are extremely excited about the potential of Try Tag Rugby Brighton & Hove with her at the helm.”
Registration for the league is now open for individuals, groups and teams. For more information and to register please visit Brighton & Hove Leagues.
If signing up as an individual or group, Try Tag Rugby will put other individual players together to create a full team.
